I have had an affinity for photography since I was 9 years old and
received my first camera; a Kodak x15 instamatic. I remember the thrill
of taking pictures and then mailing the film to be developed waiting
with such anticipation for the prints to be mailed back. Polaroid
cameras offered instant processing as well as instant gratification as
an image would appear soon after the click of the shutter, how exciting!
The digital age has combined the best elements of both creative
control and instant gratification allowing me as a photographer to be
completely immersed in the creative moment of capturing and expressing
my perception of a moment in time.
All the world may be a stage but life is a movie reel, a series of
moments stitched together creating our reality. A photograph captures,
documents and preserves a particular moment and all that encompasses it.
Since the early days of civilization mankind has been documenting
their life and the moments that create it. The most precious times of
our lives we preserve with the snap of a shutter creating a photograph
so that we may return to a moment in time and relive both the time and
the emotion we felt.
Art is an expression. Every picture I create as an art form is
associated with a particular emotion or feeling I am experiencing at the
moment I press the shutter release on my camera. My photographs become
a vehicle for that expression. The greatest reward is when
someone is moved by a photograph of mine and I know that in some fashion
a dialogue has taken place.
